Birch Mission
The Birch mission is A Satisfying Life in the Community for Men and Women with the Most Challenging Disabilities.. The definition of "satisfying" will vary considerably depending on the individual and his or her symptoms and level of recovery. The ultimate goal is that all Birch members live life as fully and richly as their abilities, and especially their desires will allow.
Our motto is: Believing in the Power of Relationships for Positive Change. At Birch, we strive to bring a real sense of family and community to our members. Through friendship, respect, understanding and patience, we strive to create an atmosphere within which individuals who have disabling mental illnesses can achieve a sense of belonging, self-respect and respect for others.
While we must acknowledge the disabilities and treat them, we focus on the individual's strengths and find ways to encourage and enhance them.
The experiences of our members clearly show that this caring foundation with emphasis on close personal relationships can greatly enhance the effectiveness of clinical treatment, rehabilitation and medicines prescribed to manage the symptoms of mental illness.
