Clinton Group Home Back and Better than Ever!
Birch Tree Communities recently completed renovating its Clinton building that was damaged
in the Feb. 2 tornado. According to its Web site the center is a community of individuals
recovering from mental illness and pursuing their dreams through person-centered rehabilitation.
Pam Malabanan, director of Birch Tree operations in Clinton, Conway and Mountain View, says
the center’s goal is to help each and every one recover and live independently.
The Clinton center provides day treatment services during the week as well as services in the
group home 24 hours a day seven days a week. The center has 10 beds. The associates in Clinton
are “very active and willing to help others out when needed,” Malabanan says. One associate,
Malabanan says, has received two Governor’s Awards for his volunteer work at the hospital.
Another associate has knitted more than 300 caps for adults and infants over the past three years.
She spends about six months each year kitting caps to donate to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Malabanan says.
This associate also is an artist whose work has been exhibited in numerous places such as the Governor’s Mansion,
Dizzy’s, Hot Springs and Little Rock. She was interviewed by Liz Massey of KTHV for a story that aired throughout the day July 8.
Other associates are talented in music, painting and pottery. The associates have done numerous projects in the
community such as cleaning cemeteries, picking up rocks in fields and trash on roads. And some pitched in with
cleanup after the tornadoes earlier this year.“We are very proud of each and every one for all their accomplishments,” Malabanan says.
