Member Employment
Pre-Vocational Employment
Personal recovery stories, industry standards and best practices promote vocational and pre-vocational endeavors for the chronically mentally ill. Evidence supports the promotion of recovery through the pursuit of meaningful activities and personal contributions to society and immediate communities. BirchWorks pre-vocational program offers members an opportunity to learn new skills and tasks in preparation for traditional and transitional employment. The BirchWorks program enables members to supplement their individual incomes while promoting self-esteem and recovery. Birch staff provide mentoring and teaching interventions to help members learn new skills, brush up on old skills, and prepare to transition into employment. Members perform numerous tasks in housekeeping, landscaping, maintenance, cooking, clerical duties and any other area in which a member can utilize strengths to promote his or her own recovery.
Traditional and Integrated Employment
Birch is proud to announce collaboration with Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in developing and implementing a Supported Employment program within the treatment milieu. Supported Employment provides an opportunity for members to gain and maintain fulfilling, sustainable employment within their respective communities.
Like all Birch treatment processes, Supported Employment is member-driven and based on individual desires, goals and strengths. Birch staff provide mentorship, training, assistance, intervention and supports for members before, during, and after the hire process. Continuous support and collaboration ensures maximum success for members, helps members re-integrate into the community, and promotes recovery.
The Birch Tree Communities, Inc. Supported Employment Program is directed by George Allen, LCSW in collaboration with ARS personnel in counties of service. Nine certified Job Coaches provide supports and services to assigned members.
Supported Employment enables Birch to receive some compensation for the loss in revenue associated with additional supports and services provided to members transitioning into the work force. Supported Employment is not driven by ability to work in competitive employment settings; rather, it is an opportunity for members to seek fulfilling employment in roles of their choosing, with constant, non-time-limited supports from the Birch Tree Communities, Inc. treatment team. Supported Employment is endorsed by SAMHSA, NAMI, and recovery advocates everywhere.
